Belize Bareboat Charters - Itinerary

We specialize in sailing instruction delivered in a live-aboard charter environment. We believe that this is the most effective learning environment because you are immersed in sailing every day. Learning in this environment allows you to not only complete your training, but also build additional experience…all while exploring the amazingly diverse waters of Belize under sail.

We work with you to define the appropriate curriculum to meet your training objectives. Your training curriculum may consist of standard course offerings, customized training, or a combination of both.
Our standard courses are taught following the curriculum of the American Sailing Association (ASA) and result in ASA certification. We offer the following ASA courses:
Bareboat Charter (ASA 104)
Coastal Navigation (ASA 105)
Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114)
Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106)
ASA Challenge

We are experienced at easily and flexibly integrating your training requirements into the normal activities of a charter. Because of this, having non-student guests aboard is not an issue. We work your training curriculum into your charter schedule, and the activities of you and your guests, not the other way around. After all, this is your vacation and your charter.

We specialize in catamaran training. Train with us before chartering or buying a catamaran and enjoy it more with the confidence that you already know how to "tame the cat".
When booked in conjunction with a charter our courses are available at our published group rates per student. However, unlike group classes, there no minimum number of students is required and you receive dedicated personal instruction from your instructor. Our course fees include all costs associated with your training. These include, but are not limited to student materials, ASA fees, and instruction.

Our head instructor, Curtis Collins, holds a USCG 100-Ton Masters License, has been an ASA Instructor since 1994 and is an ASA Instructor Evaluator.

Our course offerings:

Intermediate Coastal Cruising (ASA 104 AKA Bareboat Chartering)
Also known as Bareboat Chartering. Focuses on the skills and knowledge necessary to act as skipper or crew of a cruising sailing vessel 30 to 50 feet in length during approximately a one week cruise in coastal waters by day. Delivered during a cruise lasting a minimum of 3 days.

These include, but are not limited to: use of nautical charts, use of traditional navigation tools (compass, dividers, parallel rules), deduced reckoning (DR or ded. reckoning) navigation, correcting for magnetic variance and deviation in course lines and bearings, taking and plotting fixes, correcting for current and leeway in course lines, plotting running fixes, determining tidal range; current; and times from tide tables. This is a non-sailing course. The practical application of these skills occurs in Advanced Coastal Cruising.

Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114)

Learn how to tame that cat! An endorsement to Intermediate Coastal Cruising (Bareboat). This course is delivered as both a full Intermediate Coastal Cruising class or simply as an endorsement class for students who already have completed the Intermediate Coastal Cruising standard.

ASA Challenge

Experienced and qualified sailors may challenge any of the ASA standards. To successfully complete a Challenge the student must demonstrate the appropriate skills and pass the corresponding written exam. No instruction is provided as part of a Challenge - the student must already possess the necessary skills and knowledge.  We only offer the ASA Challenge in combination with other instruction.

Customized Instruction
Customized instruction is not limited to the ASA curriculum and may focus on any subject areas the student specifies. Customized instruction may or may not include ASA certification depending upon the curriculum selected.
